We use the term Law of Attraction because many business owners today understand the concept yet it is important to note that it has been around for thousands of years. It’s nothing new.
The Law of Attraction is most often associated with New Age concepts on spirituality. It states that our experiences in life, or our reality, are a result of our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions.
Additionally, the Law of Attraction (or positive thinking if you like), expresses the idea that people have direct control through their thoughts alone. A person's thoughts, emotions, beliefs and actions are said to attract corresponding positive and negative experiences. The Law of Attraction states "you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your experience." This has also been summarized in "What you focus on expands."
While the term “New Age” was popularized starting in the late 1980’s, in March 2006 a film was released called The Secret. This movie was developed around the Law of Attraction and, as is often the case with a highly profitable movie, it later developed into a book also called The Secret. Both gained extensive attention through the media from shows such as Larry King and Oprah.
"Positive thinking", as a concept, became popular during the 19th century in 1906 with the book Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World by William Walker Atkinson, editor of New Thought magazine.
Going back a few thousand years we can find these ideas presented in the book of Matthew when Christ was comparing thoughts to actions and told His disciples, "You have heard that it was said by them of old time, you will not commit adultery: But I say to you, That whosoever look at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart."
This statement reinforces the idea that there is no difference between the actions of our mind or our thoughts.
Because of our connection to God, we have that power to create the life we choose. In discussing the power of our thoughts that are expressed as the words we use it is also written; “if you say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.”
So if you have lived your life believing that “whatsoever, ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” you are already using the Law of Attraction.
All we are doing is putting into practice a concept that has been around for a very long time.
